KEPEMIMPINAN BALLIEM DALAM MASYARAKAT MULTIKULTURAL

Abstract

The coming of various tribes to and the rising of new formal 
leaderships in Baliem have made change of the system of relationship in that society. 
The influence of global culture have made shift of the point of view to others as well. 
The plurality of social situation compels Balim people to become more open-minded in 
relationship and in working together with anyone else. The more intense of intercultural 
relationship could enable people conceiving differences and to a certain extent 
loosening their primordial tie. Nevertheless, in other hand, that intercultural encounter 
could be a disaster of increasing the potency of intergroup conflicts; and when the 
differences seen as threats, returning to the primordiality oftenly could not be avoided. 
Multicultural society nowadays compels Balim people to accustomed 
themselves to the modern social system, including legal system and the system of 
leadership. They have to make reposition of their leadership system and costumary law 
system in order to have their existance between the system of state-government, 
religions and other social intitutions. Balim people are challenged to create their own 
modern leaders from whom are expected of embracing their Baliem-fellows from 
different groups in order to become one in social unity. Moreover, such leaders are 
expected of unifying and protecting all of tribes that live out their life in Balim Valley. 
Modern Balim leadership system needs to pay much attention to the balance role held 
by the governmental institution and, the good and influencial figures.
