Education in Indonesia seems far left behind compared with that in other countries. A number of efforts have been taken to improve the quality of education in this country, including the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). By implementing CBC, it is expected that pupils be given more central role in the learning process in order to create a more balanced relationship with their teachers. Moreover, the new curriculum will enable the learners to become more competent in their field of study.
Education, basically, is a means of self-development. Through educational process pupils are trained to become mature, creative, skillful, wise and capable in expressing their thought feeling freely. In that process, the students also learn their socio-cultural roots and to respond wisely to current problems of the society.
